D.A.R.E. Parent Night

An Evening for Parents

Thanks to all the parents and teachers who participated in DARE Parent Night at Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds on August 31, 2006!

The Bartholomew County DARE Council hosted an evening of education for parents of all 6th and 7th grade students in Bartholomew County. The event was to communicate with parents about the DARE program, and to encourage parent interaction during the semester. It also featured an overview of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and local drug trends.

Speakers included Chief Bill Martin, Captain Curt Beverage, and Officer Jay Frederick of Columbus Police Department, Major Mark Gorbett of Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, and BCSC Student Services Director Larry Perkinson.

The evening included overviews of:

  • DARE Elementary Curriculum
  • DARE Middle School Curriculum
  • How to recognize specific drugs & paraphernalia
  • How to recognize drug use in someone you know
  • How to talk to your child about drugs and violence

The Bartholomew County DARE Council recognizes that parents are a key element in helping keep kids off drugs. Educating parents about drugs and encouraging discussion within families can be the most powerful tool toward reducing drugs in our community.
